Paintball Mines are No Joke...
Especially to Your Paint-Covered Enemies

Paintball mines are rare, but awesome to see in action.

Most are used to drench an enemy or multiple enemies in an embarrassing spray of paint, but there are other applications for these devices.

For instance, some people use a powder that acts much like a smoke screen in a compatible mine. This can be very helpful for two reasons. The first, to obscure your movements on a target. And the second, to act as an early warning system to protect against approaching enemies. When you see the smoke you know they are approaching from the indicated direction.

No matter what the reason for use, this is an awesome tool when used on the paintball field. The problem is finding one that will do the job you desire without having to buy different kinds (these can be very expensive).

That's the reason we've created a list of the paintball mines we know about with a little information on each. As with every other area of this site, we will continue to add to this list as we discover more.

"Major Paintball Master Mine"

Major Paintball Master Mine

The Major Paintball Master Mine is an incredible product of ingenuity and design. Out of all the paintball mines I'm aware of, this one ranks highest for usability and durability.

Just fill up the two ends with paint or smoke powder, use a 12 gram CO2 cartridge to charge, aim, set your trip wire, and walk away!

Your enemies will be covered in paint if they set this one off.

Here's a few awesome advantages:

  • the ability to aim... adjustable pattern
  • very portable... the size of a paintball pod
  • easy setup, clean, and reload
  • inexpensive and easy refills
  • uses 12 gram CO2 cartridge and homemade or retail paint
  • doesn't need to be buried
  • minimum moving parts... less to break
  • affordably priced at around $45
  • colored a nice army green to blend in
  • trip wire can be used to set off from a distance like a claymore
  • makes a nice audible sound

For all of the above reasons, this one wins my vote. I've even heard reports of individuals being covered from head to toe and paint covering 600 square feet. I believe it.

"RAP4 M80 Landmine"

RAP4 M80 Landmine

Unlike the Major Paintball Master Mine, this landmine is activated by pressure instead of a tripwire and should be buried for proper use.

RAP4 has an awesome line of products and has attempted to capture every aspect of military simulation in paintball. Every product I've ever seen from them has been made very well. This product is no exception.

Powered by a rechargeable core, this can be loaded with homemade or retail paint or smoke screen powder.

These are priced reasonably at around $70 each and are brand new to the market. The M80 will be released for retail sales September 15, 2009.

For now, the older version of this landmine is still on the market for $39.95.

"Pressure Activated Training Landmine"

Pressure Activated Training Landmine Created for a military agency for simulation, these are a good choice for pressure activated paintball mines but they are not as advanced as the RAP4 M80 (above).

These come from RAP4 also and work similar to the M80: a rechargeable core pushes homemade paint, retail paint, or smoke screen powder through holes in the top.

These are more easily concealed than the M80 but aren't quite as powerful. At around $65 each, they're affordable for a reusable mine and a good choice.

They are available in different amounts and packs:

Again, this list is nowhere near complete. But, these are some of the best out there. I'll add others in time.
