Want to be a Paintball Sniper? You've come to the right spot. The position of paintball sniper is not for just anyone. You need a steady hand and a keen sense... but, more importantly, you need the right tools and equipment. Something else that might help: the truth. The truth is... paintballs are not aerodynamically designed, and because of this they do not naturally fly in a straight path. Because of this, 'sniping' in the proper form of the word, is all but impossible. There are, however, ways to get better results from your sniping efforts. Some of these are with your marker. Some of these are with your body. Some of these are with your team. And some of these are with your equipment. In these few short paragraphs, I'll give you a list of things to do to begin the journey to becoming a great paintball sniper... one of the best.
- First, suggestion is to check out paintball physics. Knowing what is happening with your paintballs as they fly through the air may help you better understand why the little buggers go all over the place when you fire.
- Secondly, research paintball strategies and paintball tactics. This will give you a better chance of picking out the best place to hide and attack from while playing woodsball.
- Third, pick out a good outfit of paintball camo... one that's not too heavy or in the way, but good enough to hide you well. You need to be comfortable and able to really move out if you're discovered. Ghillie suits are awesome camo, but in my opinion should be the last thing you need to worry about until you've mastered sniping.
- Fourth, find the right equipment for your needs. A remote line is a great idea. Also, I would avoid paint pods, harnesses, and large or noisy mechanical hoppers. (No sniper should need the ability carry 5000 paintballs when only one should be used for each kill.)
- Fifth, get a teammate and friend who can learn the tactics and strategies. Give them all that you learned in studying. Help them understand how it all works. Then, make them your spotter. A spotter will keep a watch on your back and help you make smart decisions. This person will be fully armed and will carry any extra equipment you need. This person will be your life-line.
- (This is where most people start.) Sixth, find a paintball sniper rifle and a barrel to go with it. My suggestion... don't get an electronic one (batteries die). A nice semi-automatic is great (Tippmann makes a good reliable line). When choosing a barrel, length is important (part of paintball physics) and porting helps. Rifling is also helpful and can be found in some barrels. Also, it's a great idea to get a backup sidearm... this one can be any type you like.
- Lastly, take your marker and practice. Get a feel for it. Know exactly how far you can fire. Know at what range you can fire effectively. This is the point where you'll want to set your sights on the gun or calibrate a scope you may have. This is your weapon... get to know it well. Find what posture helps you hold your gun steady and how to breathe to increase your aim. Remember, "one-shot-one-kill". The more shots you take, the easier it will be for the enemy to find you.
And there you have it... If you follow these 7 steps, you'll be on your way to becoming a master paintball sniper.
